BE IN PEACE, I AM THE MESSIAH

Florian Fricke is a pioneer inside the ‘meditative music’german scene.
He created Popol Vuh in 1969, which was one of the very first band to be reknowned in this musical landscape.
Within its choir scores, vocals soli and instrumental esnmble dedicated to Earth, Water, Fire and to the angels, “Be in Peace, I AM the Messiah” is one of the Master-Pieces of Popol Vuh. Filmed in Israël, this Oratorio was produced and realized by Florian Fricke himself.
The feelings developped by the music, within the energy emanating from suggestives pictures are carrying away us beyond the screen, revelating the strong and and powerful film’s soul.
The magnificant biblical landscape of the Dead Sea and Sinaï river are the fields of this scenical quest turned to Benediction. Those pictures from the desert reveal the way that goes from shadow to light, pointing to the sky and earth reunion. The tone and color unity, picture and music, the tangling of both reveals the fantastic production of the this film, a real Master-Piece.

Remarks

Innovative Communication produced a videoclip of ‘Gemeinsam Tranken sie den Wein’.

Klaus D.Müller writes in 1997:

“Shortly after, the IC Video Studio was set up, so that video clips could be made with and for the own IC artists. This was pretty new and sensational in 1979. [....] It was exhausting work in the IC video studios: we did all by ourselves. Although we asked each musician for useful ideas or even a script for their clip, the only one who had both was Klaus Krüger. In all other cases we had to improvise.”

1981:

Florian has himself been making films. ‘Sei Still, wisse Ich bin’ was made last year in Israel. It was shot around the Dead Sea and in the Palestinian mountains. The main role is taken by former model Verushka, who plays a man. The premiere was in Munich on May 16th, three days before we met, and reaction to the film was good. It will be shown on German television shortly, and may even be shown in this country at the Findhorn community’s Autumn festival.
The music for ‘Sei still’ is closer to the type Florian ideally like to do. He believes that the human voice is the greatest instrument there is: it contains more emotion and feeling than any other. His greatest joy, he says, is improvising at the piano and singing from the heart. He feels closer to God, or rather his idea of God, than at any other time now. At moments like this he feels he is ‘playing with the angels’. His music has always been religious and believes in a ‘new age’ when Man will be at one with nature and himself. He believes not in the ‘cosmic’, but in ‘earth’, in natural beauty and harmony. Now is a time to be optimistic. You only have to listen to tracks like ‘Garten der Gemeinschaft’ and ‘Lass los’ to see this and also waht he means by ‘playing and singing with the angels’
Renate Knaup is one of Florian’s favourite singers, but for ‘Sei still’ he felt her voice was too powerful, so he wrote the music in such a way that she couldn’t sing in her normal voice: she had to sing “like a child, like Heidi” (Neumusik).
